The Beach Street Surf Shop is located at 39 Beach Street - on the way down to the famous Fitzroy Beach in New Plymouth.
As the premier surf beach, it is a busy arena of the province's hot surfers. From Groms to the region's elite surfers, there is plenty of action, but surprisingly, there is usually plenty of room at one of the other peaks for learners and those intimidated by the action.

Beach Street Surf Shop is fronted by Wayne 'Arch' Arthur. A survivor from the start of surfing in the early 60's and who still surfs every other day as well as having input into the surfing scene in the region. The photo was taken by Daisy (who else ?) in September 2008. Admittedly 'one of the best shots I own' says Arch.

Daisy Day is partner in all aspects of the Beach Street Surf Shop. While not a common face behind the counter, she certainly is a fixture on the beaches of the region. As New Plymouth's premier surf photographer you can often see her perched on some vantage point capturing the action with camera. On the other hand, you may well see her surfing her ' frock off ' at either Fitzroy or her favourite spot ' Waiseys ' just up the beach a few hundred metres. Or teaching through her ' LEARN to SURF ' School. Salt water runs through the girl's veins.

Jamie ' CHIP ' Andrews is the right hand man behind the counter. An 'A-grade' surfer hailing from Waitara, a small town some 10kms north.
Equally at home on a longboard or a shortboard. Chip lives for the surf and runs the shop's advanced coaching session's for the Shop Team.
He is being taught all aspects of the retail trade and may well take on a more senior role with the shop as Arch slows down.

It's all about surfing.
The Beach Street Surf Shop is a real surf shop. If you are into surfing then this is where you come to get good honest advice and good quality surfing hardware. Over 100 boards always in stock and 300 wetsuits. You can be sure of getting what you are after.

Surfboards from a number of internationally renowned shapers as well as in house designed boards under the BLACKSAND label.
Shortboards, Longboards, Softboards, Epoxy, conventional polyester, Stand-up Paddleboards, and Clubbie Paddleboards.

Wetsuits from West, Peak, Xcel, Coastlines and Bodyline. Summer suits and the toastie winter 'you-beauties'.
Girls, we haven't forgotten you. We have assembled the biggest range of Women's styles from the leading brands.
And we reckon we will get you the right suit for your needs and pocket.

Learn to surf lessons.
If you want to give surfing a try this season, then come and discuss it with us. Daisy has her 'Learn to Surf' School operating right through the year. You can book in for a one-on-one lesson or organise a group. The lessons run for around 2 hours. You will get a thorough introduction from board anatomy, wave types, safety, and surf etiquette. Follow up lessons can be arranged too.
If you are already surfing OK but want to brush up on some techniques, then book in for a more advanced lesson.
Chip usually comes in here. As a successful contest surfer, certificated Judge and Coach, he knows some of the secrets to better surfing. There pretty much isn't a surfer alive that would not benefit from an upskilling lesson. (OK, take Kelly Slater out of the equation). Being critiqued and shown the techniques on how to make your moves is one of the best things you can do for your own surfing.
